FAQ

What is DHA and how does it work?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient in all sunless tanning products. It works by reacting with the outermost layer of your skin to create a bronzed glow.

It is derived from natural sources like sugar beets and sugar cane and is approved by the FDA for external use.

Because DHA only affects the top layer of skin:

  • Your tan is completely temporary

  • It will fade naturally as your skin exfoliates

  • It does not penetrate into your bloodstream

What ingredients are in your spray tan solutions?

At Glow by Coe, I use premium, professional solutions from Norvell and XTAN that are designed to give you a natural, even, long-lasting glow.

Both solutions include:

  • DHA (the ingredient that develops your tan)

  • Erythrulose (a secondary tanning agent for longer-lasting, more even fade)

  • Skin-loving ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins C & E

  • Botanical extracts such as green tea, cranberry, and Kakadu plum for added hydration and skin benefits

My solutions are:
✔ Paraben-free
✔ Sulfate-free
✔ Cruelty-free
✔ Vegan-friendly
✔ Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)

They’re formulated to not only give you a beautiful tan, but also nourish and support your skin while it develops.

What is the finishing powder you use after my spray tan?

I use a lightweight, skin-friendly finishing powder to help you feel dry, smooth, and comfortable immediately after your appointment.

It’s made with gentle, absorbent ingredients like:

  • Rice powder (Oryza Sativa) and arrowroot powder to absorb moisture and reduce stickiness

  • Mica and iron oxides to give a soft, subtle glow

  • Titanium dioxide for a smooth, silky finish

This powder helps:

  • Set your tan so you can get dressed right away

  • Reduce friction in areas like underarms and behind knees

  • Leave your skin feeling soft, dry, and lightly refreshed

It also has a very light scent and a subtle shimmer that enhances your glow without being overpowering.

Are your spray tans safe for sensitive skin?

Yes! The solutions I use are formulated with skin-nourishing and gentle ingredients.

However, everyone’s skin is different. If you have highly sensitive skin, allergies, or specific concerns, I’m always happy to review ingredients with you before your appointment or do a patch test if needed.

What soap and moisturizer should I use after my spray tan?

To keep your spray tan looking fresh and even, it’s important to use gentle, hydrating products that won’t strip your color.

Body wash / soap:
Choose a sulfate-free, gentle body wash that is made for sensitive skin. Cream or gel-based formulas work best. Avoid harsh soaps, exfoliating washes, or anything with strong alcohol or antibacterial ingredients, as these can cause your tan to fade faster.

Moisturizer:
Use a lightweight, hydrating lotion daily to help your tan last longer and fade evenly. Look for ingredients like aloe, glycerin, or hyaluronic acid.

Avoid moisturizers that are:

  • Oil-heavy

  • Exfoliating or “firming”

  • Containing acids like AHA or retinol

Keeping your skin hydrated is the #1 way to extend the life of your spray tan and prevent patchiness.
